Gallery B: Bloomingfoods
While in college at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, I worked at Bloomingfoods East- a Co-Op grocery store in town. At the start of my 2020 stained glass journey, I was still working there and applied to showcase my artwork at the other store in town’s gallery space.
Fast forward two years, I have moved out of Bloomington and finally get the call- I have been chosen for a three month takeover of the gallery. My work was up from April to June of 2023 and I was able to engage with the community for GalleryWalk each first Friday of the month.
My glass artworks filled the walls and windows of the gallery, transforming the space into a vibrant tapestry of color, light, and whimsy. The exhibit featured a mix of spilled produce, colorful panels, springtime flowers, winged insects, an eye-catching mirror, and various plant-themed pieces. Visitors entered the space with a view of the Co-Op’s grocery bag spilling out stained glass fruits and veggies. At the end of the space, a statement hung on the wall, explaining my involvement at Bloomingfoods and how I took the leap to believe in myself and my artistic journey. I encouraged visitors to “see” the artist in them, via the eye-shaped mirror piece hanging at eye-level.
Putting this gallery together was a fun way to pay homage to my old workspace and the artist I had become since then. Enjoy these photos of some of what was included in the space.
